Embraced by Grace

“…This is the true grace of God in which you stand.”

Val Shepard is the daughter of famous missionary parents, Jim and Elisabeth Elliot. She is married to pastor Walt Shepard and they are parents of eight children. They are currently planting a church in Southport, N.C.
They live in a county where 92,000 people are unchurched. Val has a heart for encouraging young mothers and having prayer meetings, including prayer for the lost.

Charlie and Ruth (Peculiar People) are also missionaries. They live in Greensboro on the third floor of an apartment building, where they host a community dinner called the Greensboro Grub each month, serving dinner to about 60 guests. They are part of the vibrant ministry of City Church.

Their passion is to “bring the Kingdom of God in all its joy and wonder to the people of our city, to love others lavishly, work diligently, and pray unceasingly for our neighbors and friends in our city and on our street.”

Lynn’s September News

September is here and you are in our prayers as we ask God to work through His Church and His people!  I have several things to share; I’ll try to do that briefly. Last week, I received an unusual “chain” letter from a dear friend. It was unlike any other chain letter I have ever received, because it was asking us to share Bible verses! Usually, I don’t participate, but this time I thought I’d give it a try. The letter said not to think too hard, just to share a favorite verse that pops into your head. Here is mine: “…the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing…” John 5:18. This verse is important to me because I am having to relearn how I think. Instead of striving for the rugged individualism and self-reliance that is all around us, I am slowly learning to ask God. It is so refreshing, when I can remember to do it. May we pray  that God will teach us what this verse means.
Things to remember: Our website, firstarpwm.org, has a world of information to help you. It gives information about our annual meeting, October 20 at the Huntersville ARP Church. Check the website for details, or e-mail me with questions. Our website also gives information about our First Presbyterial retreat at Bonclarken, Nov, 2-3, with Val Shepard and Charlie and Ruth Jones and much much more. You can even download brochures. Now is the time to be registering!
If you are looking at the study books on the Letters of John, there is information at our women’s website, arpwm.orgYou can even download study guides for both of the suggested books. I found this information most helpful; I think your ladies will also. On this website, you can review our purpose, our vision, and our strategic challenges. What are we here for?   To Know Jesus Intimately, to Love Jesus Faithfully, to Serve Jesus Fruitfully.
We seek to encourage and equip each other as we serve Christ!  “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow.” -Ecclesiastes 4:9-10. If your job is seeming large, be encouraged by these truths right off our website. We stand together in our labors as we serve!
Please let me know of ways I may be praying for any of you who receive this. I do have one more request to share. Charlie and Ruth Jones from our City Church in Greensboro, are having a fundraiser for their ministry on September 15. It is called City Sizzle; see their website, peculiarpeople.com for information. Please pray for City Sizzle and if you live nearby, donate items–or come(you need a ticket). Please continue to pray for our country and the coming election.
Thanks to all of you, Lynn Robinson, First Presbyterial president
